3 months!

On April 19, Colby turned 3 months old! Time has flown!

Stats: Colby weighs about 16lbs and is about 26 inches long. He is wearing 6-9 month clothes!

New things:

Colby now sleeps through the night 7 or 8 hours! It is amazing. Our favorite time of day is when he is awake but not yet REALLY awake and we can go in and look into his crib and he just starts smiling. It has become a routine to tickle his belly in his crib and watch him smile for a minute or two and then pull him out to change his diaper and give him "breakfast"!

Still loves tummy time. He still likes to do it on the boppy pillow but also loves his play mat. He kicks so much - I think we have a soccer player on our hands!

When he is in the boppy after daddy gives him a bottle, he does a back bend and curls himself over it (so funny!) (see picture below!)

He smiles. ALL THE TIME. Certain words and voices are certain to give him smiles, but he smiles at the dogs, when daddy or mommy laughs, when he hears music he likes, or when his mobile projector turns on in his crib. There are naps during the day when we put him down and he doesn't nap - he just giggles and coos and smiles at his mobile. What a great baby!

Drools. Colby drools all the time. He is learning to sit up with support so he has trouble keeping his mouth shut, haha. Break out the bibs!

Loves the water. He loves his baths (always has) but now wants to stay in splashing longer after he is clean. Usually we let him splash in there with his toys until he...err...goes potty. Matt calls it the "water fountain". Usually after about 15 mins in the bath, he pees and we have to pull him out hehe. WE have all the gear ready for the pool, we just can't wait until May when it is open! He is going to love it!

We just found out my sister is having a girl in August, so Colby will have a little girl cousin 7 months apart! YAY!

Loves car rides. Colby loves to have the windows down and feel the air on his face when we drive around.

Loves being outside of the car seat in stores. WE took him around Babies R us the other day and Matt held him and he was smiling over and over. He loved it.

Loves blankies with satin. He has two blankie buddies with satin edging and he loves to put them in his mouth and nap with them!

Loves his bumbo seat (pics to come soon!)

We also took him to Quantico Cemetery for a very special day and we visited my father's grave. It was very sweet and special for him to visit his grandpa's grave. Matt and I were very touched. Can't wait to tell him stories of grandpa Jim!

Here are some photos!

90 degrees! Loved his "baby pool"

2 months old!

Today, Colby is 2 months old! Time really does fly!

New things Colby does:

- Holds his head up for about 3-5 mins at a time, truly well beyond what the "books" and pediatrician told us is standard :)

- "talks" to himself for hours! He just lays in his crib before a nap or in his car seat yappin away! Looks like Matt is in for it with two talkers :)

- falls asleep on his own (most of the time!) He doesn't really care for the pacifier except for in certain moods. He takes it when he's really sleepy and spits it out within a minute and passes out

- Smiles. All the time. And when we replay videos of him smiling and what we say to make him smile on a video, he hears it and smiles all over again

- Sleeps "through the night"! For a non-formula baby, he sleeps a bunch at night. Apparently 5 or 6 hours is "through the night" so he started doing that lately! He usually falls asleep around 10, gets up at 4 for a feeding and then sleeps until 8. It is GREAT!

-Had his first shots! He did great! Screamed for about 30 seconds, then mommy scooped him up and he fell asleep! His leg was a bit sore, but that was it! He wasn't fussy and didn't even without the "tylenol trick" beforehand (by the way, why is tylenol always on recall?)

-Flirts. He flirts with all the ladies now. I think it's the high pitched voices, but Matt likes to think he's already a ladies man. I keep telling him good luck when he's in high school haha.

2 month stats:
13 lbs 7 ounces (gained 4lbs since birth) - 90th percentile
23.5 inches (grew 2.5 inches since birth) - 77th percentile (mommy's genes are definitely evident here, not a giant so far)

Funny anectode - when we walked in to get his shots, the nurses said "oh, he is here for his 4-month shots?" (because of his size). We corrected them and they all wanted to know about his birth, etc haha.

Also, this is a nice thing that has happened to us several times. My OB, OB nurses, and Colby's doctors and nurses have all been so surprised that it is our first child, they say we seem way more comfortable than most first time parents. That makes us feel good, because I can say, we don't always feel that way!

We are enjoying this time with him, it is starting to get warmer out, so we are really loving getting out with the baby in the fresh air. Mommy loves walking him in the stroller - so fun to not be in the house in the cold weather of winter that seems to have passed us by!

Our March pics will be updated soon and on here!

6 weeks old and more photos!!

Colby turned 6 weeks this past week!

He had a dr. appt. - 12 lbs., 23.5 inches and growing like a weed. He is in the 83rd percentile for weight and 86th percentile for height! No surprises there!

Things he started doing since 1 month update:

Smiling - when he wakes up in the morning is his smiliest time, it is absolutely adorable

Sleeping 4-5 hours at night - it has been great. He is relatively good at sleeping at night! So nice!

LOVES the bath! Now that he in the actual tub he loves it and just has the cutest look of amazement when the warm water gets poured on him and all over his little body!! Can't wait til he can sit up and play with all the fun toys everyone has sent!!

He is such a little handsome devil. In 2 weeks we have his 8 week checkup and his first set of shots (ahhh!)

ENJOY SOME NEW PHOTOS!

What has Colby been up to?

Well, tomorrow Colby will be 4 weeks old already! Wow! Time is flying.

He is so amazing. Besides the fact that right off the bat he was an excellent eater, he is a great sleeper too! Most of the nights so far, he has gone 4 hours (sometimes 3) in between feedings. We have been very careful trying to keep him on a schedule so that he can start to understand "days" are different than "nights". Days are for naps, playing, book reading, tummy time and nursing every 2-3 hours. Nights are for sleeping, and eating every 3-4 hours. I (Bre) usually nurse him at 9:45-10:30 and then he goes down for the night. He usually wakes up around 1:30 and 5:30 to nurse - and the nice part is at 5:30 Matt is up for work already, so he gets to change him and give him a cuddle. Then we usually get up for the day for good around 8:00/9:00ish. All in all, a very good schedule so far!

He is sleeping in his basinette at night and his crib or swing for naps during the day. When he reaches 15 lbs (he is 11 lbs now), he will be in the crib full time. It is much easier to breastfeed when he is in the basinette in the room than if I had to go get him up out of the crib (one of the only things that really hurts still from the c-section is bending into the crib).

Things Colby loves:

His soother thing in his crib (that lights up and plays music)
Mommy singing "You are my sunshine", "Sweet Baby James" (by james taylor), or "Skiddamarinkydinkydink"
Daddy singing Jimmy Buffett songs or "Toes" by Zac Brown
The dogs
Anything that lights up or rattles

Mom's Milk

Being rubbed on the back
Warm blankets
NOT being swaddled, haha.
Walking in the baby carrier or stroller
Car rides
Watching people when they hold me
Mobiles in his swing
Sucking on his fingers/hands (he will be a good self-soother)
Sitting in the boppy pillow

Stats:
11lbs
22 inches

New things he does:

Coos

His startle reflex is hysterical. Everytime he is sleeping and gets startled or we go to pick him up, his arms shoot up above his head (Bre says it's his conducting an orchestra reflex)

When he is being held up and down a certain way, he makes a noise like a coffeepot brewing. We call it his coffeepot noise :)

Grunts. Colby Grunts all the time in his sleep after a big meal, especially after his 5:30 feeding. Apparently most babies do this around his age, their way of vocalizing that he is expelling gas. Usually followed by a pretty gross diaper or two (conveniently after Matt leaves for work, in fact, it usually is about 10 minutes following the diaper change matt does before handing him over to Mom).

Screams about 2 times in his sleep - then takes a big poop (an audible one). He does this during about one nap a day.

Smiles. He smiles and his little dimples come out! I love them! He mimics us sometimes when we smile at him.

Here are some pictures!

Two weeks old!

Yesterday, Colby turned 2 weeks old! He had his 2 week check up, he was back to 9lbs 7oz  - his birth weight! When he left the hospital, he was down to 8lbs 9oz (perfectly normal) and by 3 days after that, he was up to 8lbs 13oz...looks like mama's milk is helping him grow grow grow! Doc said he was looking wonderful, and he said several times how strong his neck and legs are!

During tummy time at 8 days old, he held his head up for 3 minutes - we were to expect "breif" moments of picking his head up - not 3 minutes! What a strong, strong kid!

Here are some photos of his first two weeks! His dogs love him to death, they are never far from him! What a blessing!

Quick Update - the Labor/Delivery story!

Hi all!

Everyone is asking for the story of Colby's birthday - well here goes. We had scheduled a C-section for his due date, January 20th, 2011 due to his size and the risk of shoulder dystocia and prepared for it!

On January 19th, 2011 (I should add that Jan 19 is a full moon!) at 3:00 a.m., I started having weird pains (I thought it was gas haha) in bed and they were coming every 15 minutes. I was able to sleep through most of them and at 5:30 when Matt's alarm went off for work, I said..."Honey, keep your phone close to you, I'm having weird pains". Matt took the dogs out, got ready for work, I decided to get up and waddle to the bathroom to brush my teeth and start my work day. After the trip to the bathroom, I knew the "pains" I was feeling were contractions. We scheduled a doctor's visit for 8:30 when they opened because my OB wanted to see if it was just the false contractions or real ones...

Contracting on the couch before the Drs office opened! The dogs know what's up!

Well, Matt and I had a feeling Colby would be picking his bday and not us, so he packed the car, we got the dogs ready to be picked up by family...

Matt - all ready for the O.R.
And at 8:30, the doctor did her check of me, and said "Oh, yup, you're 3 cm dilated alread, you are definitely in labor...we need to get you to the hospital and have the baby!". So, at 10:00 am, we were admitted to the hospital, and met the on-call doctor. He was great. My contractions were about 5 mins apart at this point, and turns out it was "back labor" due to the baby's position in my uterus, the pain was being localized in my lower back. AND IT HURT! A LOT! The contraction meter said that they were very strong, and getting closer together, so after the doctor checked me (about 4cm dilated) baby's position had moved UP (probably due to his size and my pelvis). So, they prepped me for the c-section (our doctor after the check said that his position and my strong contractions would probably only yield a 30% chance of "regular" delivery, so we went ahead with the c-section. At 1:00, I was given my spinal epidural in my back (that was fun to do between contractions!) - then Matt was allowed into the O.R., and well, Colby came into the world!
The booties did not fit over his size 18 shoes, so they had him use 2 hairnets on each shoe instead. Best icebreaker ever before going in for surgery :)

At 1:12 pm, Colby James Bogert came into the world! He came out screaming crying and sucking on his hands!! The doctors said "woah he's a big boy!" and we heard all of the docs and helpers guessing his size. I said 9lbs 8oz and he was 9lbs 7oz, 21 inches, head 14.6 inches around. I can remember the nurse weighing him say "Yeah, this wasn't coming out the other way...maybe as a 3rd or 4th kid" haha :) He was a big healthy boy! After 3 days recovering in the hospital, we all came home on January 22nd! More pics to come!!
