4 months old update!

4 months old!

Colby is 4 months old!
Stats:

Height: 26 inches (86th percentile)
Weight: 15 lbs 12 oz (69th percentile)

New things he does:

Rolls over from back to belly. He's done it about 10 times, we have YET to capture it on video camera. He did it once when he went down for a nap in his crib and he looked SO surprised! After about 30 minutes of him trying to get back on his back, we gave in and flipped him as he started SCREAMING from frustration

Squeals. He has always done this but now it is loud. It sounds sometimes like we live in a bird emporium, like tons of canaries.
Giggles. We love it. He has to be in a certain mood, but it is heartwarming when he does!

Grabs toys. He loves his crinkle book the best, followed by Sophie the giraffe and his little plastic keys. He also loves books.

He loves his jumper/exersaucer. He doesn't quite get the bouncing up and down yet but he sure loves the toys and music!

He puts EVERYTHING in his mouth. Everything. Still drooling. :)

He can hold his head up amazingly. Since he is so darn big, we usually don't take the infant car seat out to stores anymore, we take him out of the carseat and carry him on our hips - he LOVES to look around and flirt with everyone he meets. Recently, he started grabbing things on shelves (and mommy has to pick them up). I even got a giggle out of him when he did that the other day.

Kicks his soother on all night. He moves in circles in his crib during naps and at night, ends up in various corners and kicks the "on" button on his soother ALL NIGHT! We will be sleeping in silence and hear the soother turn on and off, music, womb noises, ocean waves...so funny. (we are going to be poor due to the battery usage though)...

The soother (by his feet) he kicks all the time. :) So hot he napped in just a diaper.
Funny thing about the soother kicking is that at the doc's office, when he was getting weighed, the reading display was just about where his soother is in his crib, so he kept kicking it over and over wondering why it wasn't turning on. All the nurses and our doctor kept remarking about how smart he was for knowing that!

Sleeps through the night! He has been for a while, but it's every night now! He goes to sleep around 9:30 (we are working towards earlier...) and wakes up between 7:00 am and 8:00 am. He then eats, plays for an hour, and naps for an hour/hour and a half, almost like clockwork until about 5:00 when he stays up until bed time! He is such a great baby!

Just started Rice Cereal. Not a fan yet. We will try every night until he "gets" it. Doctor said we can start it because a) he is a big baby b)get him used to the texture and eating sitting up as well and c)to keep him from "waking" in the middle of the night -- usually he just wants a diaper change, not to eat, but this might keep him content longer.

Yeah, not a fan of Rice Cereal yet. Mommy and Daddy will work on it. :)
What we can't wait for:
The pool to open! The pool opens NEXT weekend! We can not wait. He love love loves the bath, and his baby pool. Now we just can't wait to use our baby float and swimmy diapers!

Gramma and Papa Dan (Bre's Mom and Papa Dan) are coming for Memorial Day Weekend! YAY!

Baby food. Yes, I know, messy...but we can't wait! We have our baby-food maker ready!

Summer. Besides the 90 degree weather, I just can't wait for sun! (it has been raining here for like 2 weeks)

My very first Mother's day!

What an amazing first Mother's day!

Just thinking about it, last year, I didn't technically "know" I was a mom yet on Mother's day! We had an inkling, and the dogs were acting way funny, so we thought...maybe! But it was in fact a year ago TODAY we found out we were going to be parents! What an amazing day that was! I remember Matt was so happy he told me to get dressed up and take me to my favorite (actually the only one I like) fancy restaurant for dinner. Only, we got there, and I couldn't eat about 90% of the menu after finding out we had a little bun in the oven :) And we sent the sommolier away with the wine, and actually had to ask the chef to prepare a vegetarian entree for me (the meat/seafood on the menu that night was of course either raw, undercooked, unpasteurized), but needless to say we toasted with seltzer and I thoroughly enjoyed my pea puree ravioli. Amazing that I can remember that!? And...about a week later the morning sickness started, as did my ginger ale and saltine diet. Is it weird that part of me misses that? (You can roll your eyes now)

Anyway, My mother's day this year was amazing. Matt cooked me breakfast in bed before Colby woke up, Colby hand delivered my card (I cried) and gift of a nice pedicure and massage. I can't WAIT for time to get that!

We also decided to just go sit by the lake and lay under a tree in the nice weather and look for turtles. Colby had an amazing nap outside, and thought the tree was the coolest "mobile" ever! What an amazing day! Looking forward to many more Mother's days!

3 months!

On April 19, Colby turned 3 months old! Time has flown!

Stats: Colby weighs about 16lbs and is about 26 inches long. He is wearing 6-9 month clothes!

New things:

Colby now sleeps through the night 7 or 8 hours! It is amazing. Our favorite time of day is when he is awake but not yet REALLY awake and we can go in and look into his crib and he just starts smiling. It has become a routine to tickle his belly in his crib and watch him smile for a minute or two and then pull him out to change his diaper and give him "breakfast"!

Still loves tummy time. He still likes to do it on the boppy pillow but also loves his play mat. He kicks so much - I think we have a soccer player on our hands!

When he is in the boppy after daddy gives him a bottle, he does a back bend and curls himself over it (so funny!) (see picture below!)

He smiles. ALL THE TIME. Certain words and voices are certain to give him smiles, but he smiles at the dogs, when daddy or mommy laughs, when he hears music he likes, or when his mobile projector turns on in his crib. There are naps during the day when we put him down and he doesn't nap - he just giggles and coos and smiles at his mobile. What a great baby!

Drools. Colby drools all the time. He is learning to sit up with support so he has trouble keeping his mouth shut, haha. Break out the bibs!

Loves the water. He loves his baths (always has) but now wants to stay in splashing longer after he is clean. Usually we let him splash in there with his toys until he...err...goes potty. Matt calls it the "water fountain". Usually after about 15 mins in the bath, he pees and we have to pull him out hehe. WE have all the gear ready for the pool, we just can't wait until May when it is open! He is going to love it!

We just found out my sister is having a girl in August, so Colby will have a little girl cousin 7 months apart! YAY!

Loves car rides. Colby loves to have the windows down and feel the air on his face when we drive around.

Loves being outside of the car seat in stores. WE took him around Babies R us the other day and Matt held him and he was smiling over and over. He loved it.

Loves blankies with satin. He has two blankie buddies with satin edging and he loves to put them in his mouth and nap with them!

Loves his bumbo seat (pics to come soon!)

We also took him to Quantico Cemetery for a very special day and we visited my father's grave. It was very sweet and special for him to visit his grandpa's grave. Matt and I were very touched. Can't wait to tell him stories of grandpa Jim!

Here are some photos!

90 degrees! Loved his "baby pool"

All the cool kids do back bends over the boppy pillow

2 months old!

Today, Colby is 2 months old! Time really does fly!

New things Colby does:

- Holds his head up for about 3-5 mins at a time, truly well beyond what the "books" and pediatrician told us is standard :)

- "talks" to himself for hours! He just lays in his crib before a nap or in his car seat yappin away! Looks like Matt is in for it with two talkers :)

- falls asleep on his own (most of the time!) He doesn't really care for the pacifier except for in certain moods. He takes it when he's really sleepy and spits it out within a minute and passes out

- Smiles. All the time. And when we replay videos of him smiling and what we say to make him smile on a video, he hears it and smiles all over again

- Sleeps "through the night"! For a non-formula baby, he sleeps a bunch at night. Apparently 5 or 6 hours is "through the night" so he started doing that lately! He usually falls asleep around 10, gets up at 4 for a feeding and then sleeps until 8. It is GREAT!

-Had his first shots! He did great! Screamed for about 30 seconds, then mommy scooped him up and he fell asleep! His leg was a bit sore, but that was it! He wasn't fussy and didn't even without the "tylenol trick" beforehand (by the way, why is tylenol always on recall?)

-Flirts. He flirts with all the ladies now. I think it's the high pitched voices, but Matt likes to think he's already a ladies man. I keep telling him good luck when he's in high school haha.

2 month stats:
13 lbs 7 ounces (gained 4lbs since birth) - 90th percentile
23.5 inches (grew 2.5 inches since birth) - 77th percentile (mommy's genes are definitely evident here, not a giant so far)

Funny anectode - when we walked in to get his shots, the nurses said "oh, he is here for his 4-month shots?" (because of his size). We corrected them and they all wanted to know about his birth, etc haha.

Also, this is a nice thing that has happened to us several times. My OB, OB nurses, and Colby's doctors and nurses have all been so surprised that it is our first child, they say we seem way more comfortable than most first time parents. That makes us feel good, because I can say, we don't always feel that way!

We are enjoying this time with him, it is starting to get warmer out, so we are really loving getting out with the baby in the fresh air. Mommy loves walking him in the stroller - so fun to not be in the house in the cold weather of winter that seems to have passed us by!

Our March pics will be updated soon and on here!

6 weeks old and more photos!!

Colby turned 6 weeks this past week!

He had a dr. appt. - 12 lbs., 23.5 inches and growing like a weed. He is in the 83rd percentile for weight and 86th percentile for height! No surprises there!

Things he started doing since 1 month update:

Smiling - when he wakes up in the morning is his smiliest time, it is absolutely adorable

Sleeping 4-5 hours at night - it has been great. He is relatively good at sleeping at night! So nice!

LOVES the bath! Now that he in the actual tub he loves it and just has the cutest look of amazement when the warm water gets poured on him and all over his little body!! Can't wait til he can sit up and play with all the fun toys everyone has sent!!

He is such a little handsome devil. In 2 weeks we have his 8 week checkup and his first set of shots (ahhh!)

ENJOY SOME NEW PHOTOS!
